Okanagan All Pro Wrestling followed up its debut show from Kamloops (Stairway To Gold, help April 17), with Merritt Mountain MADNESS on June 5. Coming to you from Merritt Secondary School (1561 Chapman), the show featured fallout from STG, as well as some exciting new faces and a few legendary ones! The show opened with the announcement that due to travel issues, Gama Singh Jr. would not be in attendance; Akam Singh had personally chosen "The Prince of Power" Lak Siddartha as his new partner in tonight's Main Event. This announcement brought out "Mad Dog" Marty Sugar and his handler, Big Steve McCarthy. Despite his gruff exterior, McCarthy tried to very eloquently explain that Akam's apparent nepotism and abuse of his "legend status" wasn't appreciated...but Sugar wasn't interested in eloquent: he grabbed the mic and started barking!
Apparently, when Mad Dog had heard that Akam Singh was going to be at Merritt Mountain MADNESS, he immediately offered up an Okanagan-Interior Title shot, for a chance to face the Stampede Wrestling alumnus; but Akam had politely declined, for a chance of teaming with his nephew and revisiting the infamous "Karachi Vice" franchise. Now that Gama Jr. wasn't available, Akam had slapped Sugar in the face [EDIT: Sugar's words, and not those of OAPW], by stealing the Okanagan-Interior Champion's chance at getting some much-needed revenge on Siddartha; you see, Mad Dog and Lak have been feuding for nearly three years, and their animosity toward each other all but cost both of them a chance at becoming the first-ever OAPW Champion. Now, practically foaming at the mouth, Mad Dog demanded anybody come out and get their ass handed to them in an Open Challenge...
OPEN CHALLENGE FOR THE OKANAGAN-INTERIOR TITLE: With "Eye Of The Tiger" blaring, the enigmatic Tiger hit the ring for a chance at the championship. Sugar stormed out of the ring and grabbed the microphone: he was already insulted...and now he had to wrestle a kid in a kitty-cat costume? The match was not pretty, as Sugar stomped and mauled the challenger, with Big Steve getting a few shots in at ringside. TVT tried to scratch his way to victory--literally--and then caught Sugar in a sleeper; Sugar powered through and set up for the Okanagan Slam (Oklahoma Slam), but Tiger wriggled free and shoved Mad Dog into the turnbuckles, finally staggering the larger champion with a myriad of wicked kicks. Mounting the turnbuckles, Tiger started peppering Sugar's skull with fists, until Big Steve got up on the apron to complain; the momentary distraction was enough for Sugar to shove Tiger off, hit the Sugar Shank (Samoan Spike) and follow-up with the Okanagan Slam for the pinfall victory.
"Mad Dog" Marty Sugar (c) versus Thompson Valley TigerBATTLE OF THE SEXES: Before this match started, "Hardcore" Mike More hit the ring to do what he does best: piss people off. Not only was he annoyed that his sidekick, Friar MacBeth had skipped tonight's card because his wife was expecting to give birth [EDIT: on June 7, Friar's wife did indeed give birth to a healthy baby girl...congratulations from OAPW!], but More was disgusted that a woman was being allowed to wrestle tonight. More made it very clear that women have no place inside a wrestling ring, and to combat the disappearance of The Friar tonight, More had hired a guy "he met online" (which unintentionally illicited more than a few laughs from the crowd) to deal with Raven Lake: Big Bad Chad. However, when Chad hit the ring (all 5-7 and 170-odd pounds of him), the crowd clearly chuckled at the "Big Bad" part. Regardless, More and Chad worked well together, with numerous underhanded tactics to keep Lake in trouble...until Minion came out to even the score. Meanwhile, Lake reversed a whip into the ropes, nearly causing an interfering More to collide with Chad; the distraction gave Lake an opening to schoolboy her opponent for the truly "big" victory!
Big Bad Chad (c) versus Raven LakeTAG TEAM ACTION: This one was a red-hot battle between four of the hottest young junior heavyweights in Western Canada. Adam Ryder and Collin Cutler, as The Kelownafornians, burst onto the scene in 2008 and even had a five-week reign as ASW Tag Team Champions in 2009; but in 2010, the struggle to regain their previous success has created a rift that has destroyed their friendship...quite possibly forever. While Fedyk has found a like-minded egomaniac in the talented Adam Ryder (collectively, the duo is now dubbed THE A-TEAM), Cutler turned to the fast-rising young star, Kyle Sebastian, to team up with him in Merritt; Kyle had recently returned from his debut in Japan (where he wrestled and defeated the world-famous TAJIRI), and has a recent defeat of the legendary Black Dragon under his belt, too. All four men took to the air with reckless abandon, wowing the crowd from start to finish. In the end, as Sebastian and Ryder simultaneously KO'd each other on the floor with a double-whip into a rinpost, Fedyk caught Cutler with a nasty RKO to give the A-Team the victory...to the crowd's disdain.
Adam Fedyk & Adam Ryder versus Collin Cutler & Kyle SebastianFOR THE OAPW TITLE: Slave's first title defense was not going to be easy, as the veteran "Canadian Superstar" was determined to walk out of Merritt with yet another championship on his resume. Knight used his metal kneebrace (which he wears to "protect himself" from a knee injury suffered last September) and other underhanded tactics to punish Slave, but the determined youngster fought back valiantly. Unfortunately, OAPW Referee, Glen Johnson, got caught in the middle of Slave's offensive burst, and when the Champion seemingly had the match won with a Slave Driver (vertical suplex/stunner combo), Glen was too dazed to make the count. As Slave tried to revive the ref, he was laid out by Knight...but the challenger also suffered from a dazed official and couldn't procure a three-count. Undaunted, Knight set Slave up for a superplex, only for Slave to fight back, knock Seth off the turnbuckles, and hit a picture-perfect flying cross-bodypress for the pinfall victory.
Slave (c) versus "Canadian Superstar" Seth KnightTAG TEAM ACTION: The menacing duo of Machine and Kasaki were initially outwitted by the fast-paced action of the Ninjador and Wasp, until Kasaki's devastating kicks lead to Wasp being trapped in enemy territory. Machine and Kasaki battered the yellow-and-black clad hero, including a huge dive through the ropes by Kasaki, that left Wasp splattered on the floor. Back in the ring, Machine missed a flying headbutt, and Insaniaco tagged in and cleaned house! Laying the Machine out with a reverse DDT, Insaniaco tagged Wasp back in to hit the Whoopee Cushion (flying cannonball), but Machine wasn't the legal man: before Wasp realized it, Kasaki dropped him with a jumping flatliner to secure the three-count for his team.
Insaniaco the Ninjador & Panama Wasp versus Mean Machine & The Great KasakiNUMBER ONE CONTENDER'S CHAIN MATCH: With the stipulation in this match being it could only end by tagging all four corners (rather than a traditional pinfall or submission), this one quickly turned into a war of attrition, as Minion and More brawled all around the building. Big Bad Chad attempted to come out and interfere on More's behalf, but he was quickly stopped by Raven Lake...who chopped the Hell out of Chad, before hoisting him over her shoulder and hauling him backstage! Back in the ring, these two pulled out all the stops to earn a coveted OAPW Title shot; Minion's power looked to be turning the tide, until More sneakily tripped up Minion, tied him down with the chain, and tagged all four corners to deviously earn himself the next shot at Slave and the OAPW Championship.
"Hardcore" Mike More versus MinionTHE MAIN EVENT The crowd was super-charged for this one, as many of Akam's family, friends, co-workers and long-time fans were on hand to witness his return to action in his hometown of Merritt. Disco and Starr worked well together, cutting their foes off from making a tag, and really pulling out every dirty trick in their arsenal. But Lak was too strong, Akam was too determined, and the crowd was too much against the G.O.D., as the tide turned and Disco Fury found himself on the wrong end of a surprise sunset flip that saw Akam score the pinfall in the center of the ring. Post-match, a frustrated Michelle Starr did not win over the fans with his horrible comments about Akam and his family, and tensions reached a boiling point...both in the ring and out. Amidst the distractions, Big Steve McCarthy came to the ring and started yelling at Siddartha; it was a setup, as "Mad Dog" Marty Sugar came out of nowhere to blindside his long-time rival! Marty and Steve brutally assaulted Lak in the center of the ring, while Akam was distracted with getting his hands on the obnoxious Starr; but as Starr fled to the relative safety of the dressing room, Akam turned back to the ring, saw what was going down...and came running, clearing the ring and mocking Sugar for his apparent cowardice. Big Steve, on Mad Dog's behalf, challenged Lak to a Sugar-Siddartha showdown the next time OAPW is in Merritt, and The Prince of Power readily--and angrily--agreed.
